SEND - SENCO information

At ContinU Plus Academy, inclusion sits at the heart of everything we do. We are proud to offer a learning environment where every student is valued, supported, and empowered to succeed. Our provision combines high‑quality teaching with a wide range of individual support and specialist programmes, ensuring that each learner’s needs are met with care and expertise.

Inclusive practice is embedded across the academy. Every member of staff plays an active role in creating classrooms where learners feel safe, understood, and able to thrive. This consistent, whole‑school approach has been central to the strong outcomes our students have achieved in recent years.

Our commitment is simple: every learner matters, and every learner can succeed.

Under the new code of practice, the school is legally required to publish the following information.

SEND provision at ContinU Plus Academy

As a fully inclusive school, ContinU Plus Academy provides support for a wide range of Special Educational Needs. We work closely with external agencies to ensure that students with multi‑sensory impairments, sensory processing differences, and Autism receive the specialist input they need to thrive.

Our dedicated SEN team offers targeted support across a broad spectrum of learning needs. This includes Speech, Language and Communication Difficulties, Specific Learning Difficulties, and challenges linked to Behavioural, Emotional and Social development. Through personalised strategies and consistent, high‑quality support, we help every learner access the curriculum and achieve meaningful progress.

Inclusion is not just a principle for us—it’s embedded in our daily practice and central to our school community.

Identification of Needs, Assessment and Reviews

We conduct a range of assessments to identify and assess the Special Educational Needs of each student.

  • During the referral process each student will complete a SNAP and WRAT learning assessment, which will evaluate their strengths and difficulties in a range of skills vital for learning.

  • A more detailed and personalised testing can take place either in-house or external agencies.

  • All interventions are monitored closely and progress checked regularly.

Students with Educational, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)

Parents and carers of students with an EHCP are invited to take an active role in their child’s education. You will be welcomed to attend annual review meetings, where your insights and feedback help shape the support your child receives.

We maintain regular communication with parents and carers throughout each student’s time at ContinU Plus Academy, ensuring that families remain fully informed and involved in every stage of their child’s journey.

The SENCO is available to all parents’ evenings throughout the year. We hold weekly SEND meetings every Friday between 12.30 – 1.30pm.

All parents are encouraged to contact the SEN team if they feel that their child has any underlying additional needs that require support.

The SEN Team offers an open-door policy inviting all students to come and speak to staff about their difficulties at any time.
